HOW TO EDIT WHILE TRAVELLING OR SEND IMAGES TO YOUR EDITOR
It is so important to be able to continue to work and edit client galleries even when I am not at my desk. And so it is important for me to continue to be able to work on the galleries seamlessly whilst travelling. These steps are the same steps you would also take if you are sending your galleries to an editor to work on as well. This post-processing process allows for me to efficiently work on galleries and delivery galleries on time regardless of my physical location.
CREATING CATALOGS
To CREATE catalogs to send to other to edit your photos, follow the simple steps below.
1. CREATE A LR CATALOG + IMPORT PHOTOS
First create a new Lightroom catalog.
Then import your digital RAW photos, film scans and/or your pre-edits into the catalog.
2. SELECT PHOTOS + BUILD SMART PREVIEWS
Go to the Library tab (or tap "G" on your keyboard) and select all imported photos (Cmd-A for Mac or Ctrl-A for Windows).
Then go to Library > Previews and click "Build smart previews".
3. LOCATE + COPY FILES
Go to "Catalog settings" (“Lightroom > Catalog settings” for Mac or “Edit > Catalog settings” for Windows) and click "Show" in the "General" tab.
In the opened folder, you will see these files: 1) Smart Previews.lrdata, 2) Previews.lrdata and 3) .lrcat.
Close Lightroom, then copy these files into a new folder on your desktop or hard drive.
4. ZIP + UPLOAD FILES
Zip the folder and name the zip-archive - I name the couple and shoot so for example “jeli_aaron_wedding”.
Then upload the archive to your file transfer system - Dropbox, Google etc. Once you send them to yourself you can edit save and zip back up and send back or re-upload it to work on it on your desktop again.
