HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HIRE A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

It is so difficult to know what you should be paying for your wedding photos. The cost of a wedding photographer varies dependent on the photographer’s experience, style and area that they are located. The prices can also vary widely depending on the type of coverage needed. Some photographers charge per hour for their services, while others offer packages that include everything from pre-wedding consultations to post-wedding galleries.

The average cost of hiring a wedding photographer varies widely depending on where you live.

In general, the average price for a wedding photographer in England, UK ranges between £800-£3500 with some more well known photographers charging as much as £10,000 for wedding coverage. Please do keep in mind that this number of course depends on the coverage and what is included in the package. According to Bridebooks annual report in 2022, weddings cost an average of a wedding is £16,529 and the average cost of a wedding photographer was £1290 however this was during a period where many restrictions were set in place and so weddings tended to be shorter and smaller at that time. Many couples were married in city hall and had a party at a later date or opted to keep their wedding very intimate so that they could get married at that time. 

You may need to include more than one photographer.

It's not uncommon for couples to ask their main photographer to hire an additional photographer to capture different aspects of their big day. For instance, some couples opt to have both preparations captured and have a guest list of more than 100. In this case, I highly suggest having your photographer have a second photographer to make sure that no moment is missed.

Pricing can also vary depending on if the photographer offers packages or if they only charge by the hour. Often times, the packages usually include more than the hourly rate as you will also need to add extras for things like travel and printing of images.

There's no set price for hiring a wedding photographer. However, most couples spend between £800-£3500 plus an additional £500-£2000 on wedding videography often through a separate business. It's not uncommon for photographers to charge more than £2000 for a wedding. It really depends on the style of photography you are looking for and how you want your day captured.  This includes everything from travel expenses to costs of printing images and equipment. In addition, some photographers offer additional services such as videography and engagement sessions which you can add to your package.

When choosing a wedding photographer, it is important to also consider their experience, style and portfolio.
