BELTON HOUSE - A FILMING LOCATION FOR QUEEN CHARLOTTE A BRIDGERTON STORY

Bridgerton, the Netflix series, has taken the world by storm with its gripping storyline, remarkable performances, and stunning visual effects. The show is set in a fictionalised version of Regency-era London and follows the lives of the Bridgerton family and their peers in the highly competitive and scandalous world of the ton. One of the most remarkable features of the show is the grandeur and opulence of the sets and filming locations. One such filming location is Belton House, a magnificent estate located in Grantham, Lincolnshire, in the East Midlands region of England and only a few minutes from my home!

Belton House is a Grade I listed building that dates back to the 17th century. It was designed by William Winde for Sir John Brownlow and his wife, Alice, and has been passed down through generations of the Brownlow family ever since. The house and its extensive gardens and parkland cover over 1,300 acres, and the estate has been open to the public since 1984. If you haven't already visited, I definitely recommend going!

Belton House has been used as a filming location for various films and television shows, including Pride and Prejudice, The Da Vinci Code, and more recently, Bridgerton. In the show, Belton House serves as the filming location for the Orangery, where Queen Charlotte's character, played by Golda Rosheuvel and India Ria Amarteifio, spends much of her time. As a huge fan of Bridgerton and a local to Belton House, I was absolutely thrilled when I saw these scenes.

The Orangery is a beautiful glasshouse located within the grounds of Belton House. It was built in the early 18th century and was used to house citrus trees during the winter months. The Orangery has a long history of hosting lavish parties and events, and its grandeur and elegance make it the perfect location for filming scenes of high society.

In Bridgerton, the Orangery serves as the backdrop for several pivotal scenes involving Queen Charlotte. The character of Queen Charlotte is an essential part of the show, as she holds a position of power and influence in Regency-era society. She is portrayed as a formidable figure who is always aware of the latest gossip and scandal in the ton.

The scenes filmed in the Orangery are some of the most memorable in the show, as they showcase Queen Charlotte's wit, intelligence, and power. In one scene, Queen Charlotte hosts a tea party in the Orangery, where she subtly manipulates the other guests to reveal their secrets and vulnerabilities. In another scene, she confronts Lady Danbury about her past, showing her ability to assert her authority even over the most powerful members of society.

The Orangery scenes in Bridgerton are not only significant because of their role in the storyline but also because of the stunning visual effects and attention to detail. The beautiful architecture of the Orangery, combined with the costumes, lighting, and cinematography, creates a truly immersive and captivating experience for the viewer.

Belton House and the Orangery are essential elements of Bridgerton's visual landscape. The Orangery scenes featuring Queen Charlotte are some of the most memorable in the show, and they showcase the character's intelligence, wit, and power. It is a testament to the power of location scouting and production design that Belton House and the Orangery can transport us so convincingly to another time and place.
