Congratulations! You’re officially engaged and it’s time to start planning your wedding. Before you dive into the details, take some time to just be happy together. This is one of the most exciting times of your life, and it’s really important to take a step back and just enjoy the moment. Even if you feel like you’re ready to jump into wedding planning, you’ll thank yourself later for taking the time to just soak in this moment.

Tell your friends and family.

Now that you’ve taken a breather, it’s time to spread the news that you’re newly engaged. Start by telling your family, then your closest friends who feel like family. After that, you can share the news with everyone else - it’s your choice how you want to announce it. You can do it in person, post on social media, or any other fun way you can think of! And if you are stuck on ideas, here are some creative ways to let them know.

Pick your wedding party.

Once you’ve made the announcement, it’s time to start thinking about the wedding party. Think about who you want to stand beside you on your big day, and don’t forget to ask them if they’d like to be part of your wedding. And if you are looking for creative ideas to ask your girls to be your bridesmaids, here are some fun ideas.

Find some inspiration.

The next step is to get inspired. Pinterest is a great place to start and it’s a great way to get your creative juices flowing. Take some time to browse through different wedding ideas, colours and themes. Once you’ve got some ideas in mind, it’s time to get organised and start planning.

Start thinking about your timeline.

Now that you’ve got some ideas, it’s important to think about your wedding timeline. You’ll need to decide when you want to get married and how long you have to plan for. This will help you determine which vendors you need to book and when. It’s also important to give yourself plenty of time to plan, so you don’t end up feeling overwhelmed. And if you are unsure of how your timeline should look, check my blog post here.

Book your wedding photographer.

Once you have started a draft timeline and have an idea of how the day will flow, I recommend booking your wedding photographer. A wedding photographer will be able to capture all the special moments on your big day, so this is an important step. And a great way to capture this time before your wedding and to get to know your wedding photographer is by booking an engagement session.

Book your other wedding suppliers.

Once you’ve got your photographer booked, it’s time to begin booking all your other wedding suppliers. It’s important to prioritise the suppliers that you need the most. For example, you might want to book your florist, band, and cake maker before focusing on other details. I would also recommend booking a wedding planner and stylist. To help you with this, I have a list of recommended suppliers that you can find here.

Split up the responsibilities.

When it comes to planning your wedding, it’s important to remember to divide and conquer. You and your partner will want to take on different roles and responsibilities, so that you don’t end up feeling overwhelmed. It’s also important to make sure that you’re communicating with each other throughout the process. This will help ensure that everything is going smoothly and that you’re both on the same page.

Now that you’ve had some guidance on how to get started when you’re newly engaged, it’s time to start planning your big day! It’s important to remember that planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but it’s also an incredibly exciting time. So take it one step at a time and enjoy the journey.
